No-exam life insurance

How accelerated underwriting works, who qualifies, and what happens if you don't.

Most carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: if you fall within age and amount thresholds, they can approve or decline using your application, rx history, driving record, and other data, skipping the exam. Decisions sometimes arrive same-day. Each quote here shows whether the carrier expects, might request, or won't need an exam.

What it changes

Choosing not to take an exam doesn't bypass underwriting. Your answers get checked, and if a policy was sold based on wrong information, the carrier can contest it in the first two years. If their records raise concerns, they may still request an exam or tests; that's when you decide whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Generally, applicants under around 60 applying for amounts within the carrier's accelerated window, with no serious health background and no tobacco use in the last year, qualify. If you've had a recent medical visit with lab work, some carriers will use those results instead of ordering an exam.

An exam, if required, is a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedic at your home or office in the San Leandro area, at no charge. For healthy applicants, exam results often improve your class, so it can actually help your rate.
